The Hyundai Tucson itself is a compact SUV that was first introduced in 2004. Its name is taken from a city in Arizona, United States. Hyundai is aggressively marketing the Tucson in America.
Then, the latest Tucson facelift version underwent an overhaul of the design concept to make it look more aggressive, completely new with a fresh styling, new hybrid engine options and a heavily overhauled interior.
To find out more about the Tucson marketed in the Philippines, see the following Hyundai Tucson Philippines review.
Exterior
The Tucson facelift still shows a body silhouette similar to the previous version. The grille now has more horizontal trim. The grill still maintains a hexagonal shape, but the line pointing down is made more concave.
Tucson also has a different shape of the lights. The rim design used is now also simpler. Likewise for the taillights which are more rounded than before. The rear lights themselves are now using LEDs from the previous halogen ones.
The dimensions of the Hyundai Tucson are 4,475 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width, 1,660 mm in height and 2,670 mm in wheelbase.
Interior
Not only the outside of the car, the Tucson’s interior also received a slight design revision. This can be seen in the more modern dashboard layout.
Tucson also uses a 7-inch floating head unit following a growing trend. For setting the tilting and telescopic steering wheel to the headrest, now it can be adjusted up and down and back and forth.
Seat settings can be adjusted 8 directions for the driver’s side. Coupled with 2-way lumbar support settings. Then the back seat of the Tucson is also known for having quite soft foam.
Equally important is that there is still quite a lot of legroom and headroom left even when adults are sitting in the back.
Features
- Infotainment features
The various improvements offered enter the 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system used. This includes a climate control system as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. There are also wireless chargers on the center console and USB on the front and rear rows.
- Safety features
The safety feature embedded in the Tucson is the middle airbag which prevents the driver and front passenger from colliding in an accident. Apart from the Driver Attention System and the semi-self-driving system which are smarter, there is also an Automatic Emergency Braking System which will identify hazards when you exit an intersection.
Powertrain
The petrol version of the Tucson uses the NU 2.0 MPI D-CVVT engine which has a capacity of 1,999 cc. The engine with a 4-cylinder configuration can produce a maximum power of 155 hp and a peak torque of 192 Nm.
The diesel version uses a CRDi R 2.0 engine with a capacity of 1,995 cc and is equipped with a turbo. Even though these machines also have the same 4-cylinder configuration, the power and torque are much higher, namely 176 hp and 400 Nm.
Both petrol and diesel versions are available with an 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission option.
Fuel Consumption
The latest Hyundai Tucson fuel consumption for use in the city is around 11 km/liter. Then for highway routes 14 km/liter, and combination routes 12.3 km/liter.
Conclusion
Extreme changes to the exterior make the Hyundai Tucson feel more aggressive than the previous generation. Not to mention the new technology offered and the option of a hybrid engine is a special attraction for Tucson to attract consumers in the increasingly crowded compact SUV segment.
